Something about SJ
As your Coach, I’m here just for you.
Read on to get a sense of me….
“You’re comfortable in, and even seem to like, uncomfortable situations,” a dear and astute friend once told me. I’d never thought of myself that way. Said friend often reminisces of the time I was stuck in my broken-zippered jacket on West Hastings Street (busy), and regaled onlookers with an absurd, wriggly dance to extract myself all the while shouting, “I’m stuck! Stuck in my jacket!”
For her, this uncontained, unabashed expression represented who I can be in my essence – playfully unafraid to be pegged as someone having a psychotic break, and what she’d like more of in her life – thinking, saying, and acting out how she truly feels in the moment.
My essence words are: Play, Leader, Genius, Compassion, Creation. My mission is to live from this place, instead of letting my survival mechanism do so. I’ve spent a lot of time in both. We all have. Through stepping into my essence, I have seen great results, and much more importantly, enjoyed my life along the way.
I had created some conventionally successful results in my life. I’ve had a legacy career as a leader in tech, competed at high levels across a couple sports, and created robust property and investment portfolios. I worked alone whenever I could to create these results, assuming others saw me as a weirdo outsider, and my assuming I’d do better without interference anyway.
I had moved overseas for the first half of my 20s to attempt to create and live a fully expressed life as a queer person (it worked). I came back to Vancouver then over to Victoria in 2011, where I quickly committed to an industry-leading, year-long Coaches’ Training Program with Accomplishment Coaching.
I have been living increasingly full-out since then. Working with skilled coaches has been truly transformative in creating the life and connections with others that I’m excited to wake up to each day. Closing the door on my legacy career to make coaching my sole occupation is my testament to how valuable and transformative I know work with a skilled coach can be.
For me, the present and future focus of sessions, with commitment to take exciting, not daunting, action thereafter, makes coaching a pragmatic and powerful experience choice like no other.
Though coaching and counselling can be a powerful duo, I’ve found coaching to far surpass the value I’ve gained from even highly-recommended and accomplished counsellors. My reasons are the future-focus, plan and goal orientation, and accountability aspects delivered with love and compassion. I manage our sacred time together with purpose. No one will abruptly declare, “Well, that’s our time,” without being clear on where we’ve got to and what each of us will do in our time apart.
I am an open book, so do not hesitate to inquire further on my life story as it might serve you. We sure aren’t going to talk about me in our time together, so let’s get it all out now! 🙂
With love,
SJ
